For more than ten years now, Global Volunteers has been playing a small but vital role in assisting Poland's journey toward modernization by sending volunteers from all walks of life to teach conversational English -- the language of the world's marketplace -- to the young people of this emerging nation.

Initially invited by Rural Solidarity, Global Volunteers teams are now hosted by the county government of Siedlce, the community in eastern Poland where they work. Volunteers also teach two summer camps each year in the picturesque alpine community of Zakopane, located in the Tatra Mountains along Poland's southern edge.

As Global Volunteers enter their second decade in Poland, they are proud to announce that their work has recently expanded beyond teaching English. Their hosts also have requested volunteers who would enjoy working with at-risk children in an after-school program or with handicapped youths and adults.

"Before this trip, I was not aware that a heart can actually sing. It can.
During the past few weeks, mine has sung repeatedly."
